Re-Envision Your Future

Episode 023

Script

Welcome to the Plan for Wonder Podcast. I’m Crystal, the talking head, founder, and creator of myLife Planners dot CA.

When I look at my own statistics of online activity I feel frustrated. Frustrated with how I know that in some ways it traumatizes my soul. We are a society born from small-minded leaders who cling to power over creating healthy communities for everyone.

I’ve been lost in the rabbit hole ether of news about the heartbreaking political state of the world. No matter where you turn, the pages of the Globe and Mail are filled with written ‘opinions’ instead of actual journalism. Stories based more on opinions than facts don’t represent truths. Truth, a world that is being villified just like ‘wokeism’. An obvious push by those who have power to rewrite every day of our lives.

With everything I have been learning about our history and even my own growing up in the 80s. In fact, whenever I look back and read or watch any kind of media from the time feels I feel little stabs to my heart and soul. I really thought I was born in a time of revolution and change that was so bright who wouldn’t want a world where genders are equal, wars are only in the history books, and food and shelter are a human right that isn’t profited from.

Yes, I was a Star Trekkie and it was a vision that made sense to me. They provided a balance of order with personal choice and led with ethics because capitalism was a thing of the past.

Revisionist story-telling is a personal love of mine. I think the best example is the Bridgerton Series by Shonda Rhimes. Seeing the time period re-defined when race wasn’t part of the conversation both literal and subversive.

We need more of that. We need to show what the world can be like when we remove barriers and we respect the world around us, socially, environmentally, and emotionally.

If you know of books or bingeable series that are based sometime in the near future where the drama is not based on racism, sexism, traumatic wars, or profiting off the misery of others.

I do wonder if in the spirit of revision, our Canadian history was based on a European mission to embrace and respect indigenous cultures that nurtured the land. Oh what a world that collaborated and balanced the needs of the land with the values of sustainable development. That is a story that needs to be created, written, and celebrated.

I know I am a visual person and so much of the push back I think some people have is due to fear of the unknown. Why not show them a future of this outcome?

I’m tired of a world that keeps telling me what my heart should feel and what my mind should think. We have lost trust in others. The world of media is built on negativity and what’s worse than fearing your neighbour? Especially in a world that is globally connected, we have just elevated the fear factor that the top zero point zero zero one percent trigger in their media empires.

They say history is written by those who succeeded… how about we choose a future that is written by everyone?

Instead of going down the rabbit hole of trauma, we can choose to write another story — our story, the story that lights us up.

You don’t need to be a ‘writer’ per se, but you can choose what you write down in your plan and vision for your life.

This is the core of myLife tools. I created a space that is structured to be flexible to each unique individual’s needs. I created a space for you to create your life, one idea, one task, one connection at a time.

Our lives are made up of what we experience every day. Each new hour, day, week, month and year of our lives will always be an opportunity for a fresh start. The blank pages are always ready to document what you value and what you need in that moment of time.

So, when you look down at your desk, phone, or digital app, whatever tool you use to manage your life, what is the story that is being told? Are there chapters you want to re-write or re-create? Even better, what is missing? What are your needs? Do you see them being met?

When it comes to the global challenges our world faces, we all know that one person is not the answer and trying to carry it all on our own shoulders doesn’t actually help and even worse, only brings one down. But, what we can do is re-envision our day. Embrace the wonders of the world around us and practice gratitude for what we do have that lights us up. Connect with others with similar visions, and slowly, with each new lighted soul, we burn brighter and lead the way together.

And with that, thank you for spending time listening to Plan for Wonder and remember:

The space you take up in the world matters to me, but even more importantly, you matter the most in your own life.
