Later Never Shows Up

Whether it’s daydreams or wishes, hoping they will appear in the future depends on later show up.

When you choose to do something, it’s usually in the moment. Everything we decide to do is always in the ‘now’. Unlike the message Eckhart Tolle shared in his book, “The Power of Now,” waiting for later to do anything is a practice of doing nothing.

My concept of the world is unravelling along with my visions for the future I was working towards. I'm turning 52 this year, and I’m aware of my halfway mark (yes, gonna go with the plan to make it to 100), and the ‘retirement’ a.K.a. golden years will not be anything that was and is for the current boomer generation. Gen X was raised straddling a world pre and post-digital; perhaps this flexibility and resilience are how we can guide and lead the next steps and expectations.

We know that no one ultimately ‘cares’ about our existence. But because of that, we are more in tune with our own value because we don’t base it on outside influences. So my feelings aren’t hurt as I see that mega-corporations aren’t in business to support customers (A.K.A. people), just their bottom line. It’s why I love cats so much. They are a take-it-or-leave-it in their transparent honesty. I don’t have to purchase from Amazon or Walmart. I can choose to purchase less and spend more on local suppliers, which enriches my community.

I have every moment of each day to impact my life and those around me. By inviting in this mantra “later never shows up,” I’m pushing procrastination to the side.

I think the biggest struggle I have these days is deciding what to start with. What do I do now that will make the most impact? Maybe that is what is holding me back. Not unlike cleaning or decluttering, the only way to start is just to start without caring if it’s the best choice. Perfection is the enemy of progress.

Today, while looking at my long list of obligations, I leaned into writing this post to allow my thoughts to flush out so my mind could open up and have more clarity.

Later is not my friend or yours.

Every moment is choosing to show up for me.

Show up for yourself today.
